Nagada
- History ~ ANCIENT (and modern) EGYPT ~ The present day village is 26 km north of Luxor/Thebes (modern Deir el-Bahri). It is also known as Ombos (also Kom Ombo) (ancient Nubt or Noebt). Har’wer was worshiped as a son of Ra here. In ancient times, it was the center for the Cult of Seth, and because of this the village became the capitol of a state in Pre-dynastic times, called the Kingdom of Nagada, situated between the Kingdom of This (which Abydos was a part of) and the Kingdom of Hierakonpolis. (This is the same place as Naqada, below.) For more information go here: Egypt: Naqada, A Feature Tour Egypt Story.
- The Movie (StarGate © 1994) ~ The main city on Abydos that Sha-re and Skaara are from.
|
| Naquadah (Naqada)
-
History ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ The largest excavation site of Pre-dynastic (now known as Nagada I (Amratian) and Nagada II (Gerzean) periods) graves, near the Old Kingdom pyramid of Tukh. The archaeologist Sir Flinders Petrie discovered it in 1895. This is the same place as Nagada, above (The Arabic uses the "q" instead of the "g" as in English).
- The Movie (StarGate ©1994) ~ First mentioned in the movie (it is the mineral the Abydosians are mining for Ra), it is not named until the show. It is the valuable and rare metal from which the Stargate is made. It is used in large quantities in Goa’uld technology.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ A person with Naquadah in their system, such a Cassandra, has the ability to detect a Goa’uld (202 – In the Line of Duty). Naquadah generates a higher gravity in foreign bodies. This is shown when SG-1’s ship is caught on the asteroid with the solid Naquadah core (517 – Fail Safe). Fifteen years ago, the people of Kelowna (See Jonas Quinn) discovered a Goa’uld temple and the Stargate along with a substance called Naquadria. Naquadria is a highly unstable radioactive version of Naquadah. Naquadria has the potential to produce enormous amounts of energy; even more than weapons grade Naquadah. Major Carter theorized that it could be the key to creating a hyperspace window or energy defense shields (521 – Meridian). The instability of Naquadria increases exponentially as you attempt to extract more energy from it. This makes it an unpredictable and dangerous fuel source (601 – Redemption). Extended exposure to Naquadria leads to brain damage, characterized with the symptoms of delusions, hallucinations, and paranoia. Dr. Kieran, Jonas’ mentor, was stricken because of his involved work on Kelowna’s bomb project. However, these symptoms can be slowed with early medication. Kelownan archaeologists discovered Naquadria mine shafts near the location of their Stargate. This mine has yielded roughly 300 pounds (607 – Shadow Play).

Nasya
- Myth ~ ANCIENT GREECE ~ Possibly named for Mount Nysa; an unknown location from Greece mythos. Modern historians have unable to pinpoint its exact location although through the research of ancient texts, several locations have been suggested. Sources suggest its location being in the Aegean Islands (near Icaria or Naxos), Armenia, Asia, Asia Minor, Crete, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Grecian mainland (near the Peloponnese or Thebes), India, or Libya. Even in ancient times there was a question as to the exact location of the mountain. Even though Homer suggested that it was located in Thrace, he later questioned its location in a fragment from a Hymn to Dionysus dated to 7th-6th centuries BC. Mount Nysa was the setting for several myths. After Zeus burned Semele to death, Hermes suggested that Dionysus (Trans: “Zeus of Nysa;” the son of Semele and Zeus) be raised by the Hyades (Trans: “The Rainy Ones;” Roman: Suculae), better known as the Nymphs of Nysa. It was also here that Dionysus invented wine. In another myth, Persephone was picking flowers in the Nysa Valley or Plain, when Hades kidnapped her. This, of course, is the start of the myth explaining why there is winter and how the Goddess of Spring is also the Queen of the Dead. Additionally, the Moiræ are said to live on the mountain. During Typhon’s assault on Mount Olympus, he fled from Zeus’ thunderbolts to Mount Nysa. Here the Moiræ offered him magical fruits, which they told him would restore his vigor, but in reality would do the exact opposite. Zeus and Typhon resumed their battle near Mount Haemus and then to Sicily, where Zeus trapped Typhon beneath Mount Aetna.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Nasya is a planet populated with humans that emulate Nordic culture. This is also where Jolinar of Malkshur hid from the Goa’uld. The Nasyans were eager to start an alliance with Earth and the construction of a research outpost. There has been no Goa’uld intervention for three centuries. The SGC thinks the attacks started because they were hunting for Jolinar. There was no sign of the mothership before the gliders started their attack. 237 Nasyans were rescued by the SGC and O’Neill suggested that they be relocated to P3X-422. Talia and her husband are natives (202 – In the Line of Duty).

Nefertum
- Myth ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ (Translation: "Atum the Beautiful One ") (Called Ipthtimis and/or Nephthemis by the Greeks) Also called Nefertem, Nefer-Tem, and Nefer-Temu. He was the God of Fragrance. In Memphis (ancient name: Mennefer, First Nome, Lower Egypt), he was the son of Ptah, the God of the city of Memphis and inventor of the arts, and Sakhmet. At Buto (in the Nile delta), he was the son of Wadjet, the cobra-goddess. Sometimes he was the son of Bastet. Nefertum is a youthful god associated with the lotus flower. In the Pyramid Texts (c. 2350 BC), he was referred to as an ancient god. He became more important and well-known during the New Kingdom (1539–c. 1075 BC) and beyond. Because lotus flowers open in the sun and grow in the water, he was associated with Ra and Nun (the Primeval Waters). His warlike aspect was depicted as a lion. Nefertum was most frequently depicted as holding a scimitar (the curved sword chiefly used by Arabs and Turks) with a handle of a falcon’s head. He wore a headdress of a lotus flower with two feather plumes rising up and a menat (a ritual necklace counterbalance) on each side. Learn more at: Egyptvoyager.com: Religion Lessons - Lesson 3 and Nefertum.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ The Goa’uld responsible for transporting the humans to planet P2X-416, which houses the rival continents of Bedrosia and Optrica. The Optricans believe that they were brought to the planet by aliens who traveled through a gateway (Stargate), while the Bedrosians believe that Nefertum created the planet and its people on the continent of Bedrosia, without the gateway (their holy book is called the Book of Nefertum). Daniel says: "Nefertum? Son of Sakhmet, the Blue Lotus Blossom? That is who you believe created you? He must have been a Goa’uld." Teal’c says that Nefertum was the Blue Lotus Blossom of Ra, and that he is/was an Under-Lord of Ra, who probably brought the people to the planet as slaves (319 – New Ground).

| Neith
- Myth ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ (Translation: "One Who Is") Also called Neitha, Net, Nit, Neit, Thoum-aesh-neith; her title is "Mistress of the Southern Wall" (in reference to the Wall of the Crow). She is said to be self-created. It was said that Neith gave birth to Ra while she was still in the waters of Nun (Primordial Waters of Chaos). She is the mother of Sobek and sometimes said to be the wife of Seth. In other texts, Isis, Nephthys (Goddess of the Desert, Sterility, and Women), and Selket (Scorpion-Goddess) are her sisters. In Upper Egypt, her husband was Khnum (A Creator God and a Patron God of the Artisans) and her son was Tutu (A form of Shu [God of Dry Air]). Her center of worship was mostly Saïs, the capital of the Fifth Nome of Lower Egypt (Sapi-meht was the name of her temple there) and she was also worshiped some in the city of Esna. Neith was the founder of the city of Saïs, when brought the Nile River to the ocean. Because of this, she is called "The Tracer of the Nile’s Course." She is the Goddess of Night and Upper Heaven (also called "ether" or "pure air;" modernly known as o-zone). She was also a creator deity, in that she was considered to be the creator of both gods and men. She is the Patroness of Spinning and the Loom, while also being an ancient Goddess of War. She is often pictured holding a bow and arrow, which was sometimes confused with weaving tools. Her symbol then became a shield with a pair of crossed arrows. She is sometimes depicted wearing the Deshret (Red Crown) of Lower Egypt; other times she wore a shuttle (A tool used in weaving) on her head. (In Upper Egypt, she was depicted with the head of a lioness.) Compared to Athena by the Greeks.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ One of Ishta’s female highest-ranking Jaffa warriors, Neith is the older sister of Nesa. While Ishta saved Neith, she was unable to save two of Neith’s other sisters from Moloch’s Ceremony of Fire. Neith herself traveled back to her home planet to save Nesa. She consequently had to kill her father, a high-ranking member in Moloch’s Imperial Guard, so as to escape the planet undetected. Neith originally did not trust the Tau’ri; thinking that exchanging symbiotes for tretonin is simply exchanging one master for another. In the end, Neith came to respect the Tau’ri after her symbiote nearly died on a mission to capture a symbiote for her sister. Nesa convinced her to use tretonin to survive (710 – Birthright).

| Neleus
- Myth ~ ANCIENT GREECE ~ Son of Poseidon (God of the Sea) and Tyro (A mortal woman), and twin brother of Pelias. Tyro left the baby boys on a hillside, however a housekeeper saved them. Tyro’s stepmother, Sidero, raised them. She mistreated Tyro. When the twins discovered the truth about Tyro, Pelias killed Sidero. As an adult, he moved to the region of Messenia in the Peloponnese and became king of the city of Pylos. He married Chloris and fathered a daughter, Pero, and sons, Alastor and Nestor (the only son spared by Hercules’ wrath).
- The Show (Stargate Atlåntis) ~ He is a native of the Planet M7G-677 and is Ares’ right hand man. He is initially on Ares’ side of the dispute concerning the SGA team. Ares sends him into the puddle-jumper to see if Dr. McKay is, in fact, aboard. He discovers that McKay is not aboard the ship, and Ares sends him to search for the good doctor. Neleus discovers McKay in the ruins of the ancient city working on the EM shield generator. He witnesses the EM shield disable the Wraith probe and convinces Ares that it works as the SGA team has said. Keras and Pelias are his fellow villagers (106 – Childhood’s End).

| Nellis
- Geography ~ NEVADA, USA ~ The top secret Air Force Base at Groom Lake, AKA "Area 51," referred to as "Dreamland" on aviation frequencies. Area 51 is 95 miles from Las Vegas and surrounded by the Nevada Test Site and Nellis Air Force Base. It was selected in the 1950’s as a test site for the U-2 spy plane.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ The alien technologies that the SG Teams bring back are brought there to be developed for human use. The second gate (from Antarctica) was sent there. Colonel Harry Maybourne is in charge (214 – Touchstone). The Death Glider that SG-1 stole from Apophis was retrofitted here under the supervision of Dr. Larry Murphy and is code-named "X-301" (201 – The Serpent’s Lair). Apophis installed a hidden recall device as a result of Teal’c desertion (to discourage other Jaffa from following Teal’c’s example) in all of his Death Gliders (412 – Tangent). Thusly, the "X-302" was backwards engineered at Area 51. It uses human materials based on Goa’uld technology (601 – Redemption). The ship the Nightwalkers built was sent to Area 51 for study (605 – Nightwalkers).

Nem
- Language~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ When paired with the hieroglyph, "ankh," (Nem Ankh) it translates to "eternal life."
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Nem, an amphibious-humanoid creature, holds Daniel captive. He is seeking information about his partner, Omoroca, who lived on Earth 4000 years earlier. He has the technology to implant and tamper with memories. He lives on the planet Oannes. He used Akkadian Cuneiform to communicate with Daniel (112 – Fire and Water).

Nemes
- History ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ The Nemes a striped linen head cloth worn by the Pharaohs. It covered the head completely and fell on either side of the face. It is worn tight across the forehead, and tied into semi-tail at the back (called the "queue") with two flaps on each side of the face (called lappets). A uraeus (cobra) and vulture head are at the center of the forehead. The uraeus represents the goddess Wadjet and the vulture is the goddess Nekhbet, who were protectors of the king (A plain version was called "khat"). The band that went across the forehead was made of leather (to either stop sweat stains or to prevent chafing). Sometimes the false beard was connected to the Nemes. The most notable examples of someone wearing the Nemes are the Sphinx and the funeral mask of King Tutankhamun, as well as the numerous Shawabti statuettes (they acted as servants in the afterlife). The earliest representation of the Nemes is from the seated statue of Djoser (third dynasty) in the serdab on the north side of the Step Pyramid (See Imhotep). Learn More: The different crowns of Ancient Egypt.
- The Movie (StarGate ©1994) ~ In the novelization of the movie, the chevrons are described as a stylized Nemes. "Seven fist-size quartz jewels were set into the ring at even distances, each one surrounded by a golden shroud. These shrouds were replicas of the striped pharaoh’s headdress, or nemes, like the one on Tutankhamen’s famous death mask (p. 19)."

| Nemesis
- Myth ~ ANCIENT GREEK ~ The goddess of Divine Justice and Vengeance. She is angry at the human destruction of the natural order of things and of the arrogance causing it. She was represented in a chariot drawn by griffins, the wheel of fortune, or with wings. (She is often depicted with wings (like Eros) because she is associated as a consequence of love). She was often confused with Adrastea, the goddess of the inevitable. She is the daughter of Oceanus or Zeus, but according to Hesiod she is a daughter of Erebus and Nyx (Nox). In most Greek myths, she gave birth to Helen of Troy, who was fathered by Zeus. According to the 1994 Merriam-Webster Dictionary, nemesis is defined as "a formidable and usually victorious rival or a curse."
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ In this episode the "nemesis" or "enemy greater than the Goa’uld" of the Asgard are some robotic bugs called Replicators. These "bugs" beat up Thor and started to destroy the Bilskirnir. The Replicators consume metal to replicate and are intelligent (322 – Nemesis). After the Bilskirnir crashed into the ocean, one of the Replicators found its way into a Russian submarine. SG-1 was able to stop the Replicators because they were replicating out of the metal the sub was made from. By blowing up the sub, the Replicators rusted/oxidized to death (401 – Small Victories). The Replicators that were on Apophis’ ship modified the engines 800 times the previous maximum hyperdrive speed to reach Delmak. SG-1 caused the ship to go into an uncontrolled re-entry of Delmak’s atmosphere by destroying the control crystals of the sub light engines. The Replicators and Apophis were killed (501 – Enemies). Reese is the creator of the Replicators. Through nanotechnology she can turn any metal into Replicator blocks. She originally made them to be her toys. Many years ago she "taught" the Replicators how to make more of and protect themselves. They also protect her. The people of her home-world thought that she was dangerous and wanted to terminate her. As the Replicators became too numerous, she lost control of them. The Replicators killed all the people on her planet; including her "father," who created her. She is connected to them telepathically, in that she controls them with her thoughts and feels pain when they are destroyed. She is "killed" after the Replicators get loose in the SGC (519 – Menace). The Replicators studied Reese and created "First" through "Sixth" to be like her. They are made of tiny Replicator blocks similar to nanaites. They have taken over the planet Halla. A time dilation device has trapped all the Replicators there (612 – Unnatural Selection). They have used the Time Dilation Device to escape the black hole and have formed into a ship. Fifth kidnaps Carter in an effort to try to make her love him. Thor interfaces O’Neill’s mind (loaded with Ancient knowledge) with the computer of his ship. O’Neill makes a Disruptor Gun that interrupts the signals between the blocks rendering them inert. However, Fifth and RepliCarter are able to escape (801/802 – New Order). They will wipe out the Goa’uld in a matter of weeks. Carter and Selmak reconfigure the Ancient weapon found on Dakara (See: Jaffa) to emit an energy wave that kill the Replicators instead of all life in the universe. They ask Baal to reprogram the Stargate system so that it dials every Gate in the galaxy simultaneously, thus (probably) killing all the Replicators (816/817 – Reckoning).
- The Show (Stargate Atlåntis) ~ The Asurans are a Replicator-like race that was built by the Lantians (Ancients) to fight the Wraith. The Ancients originally made them as nanites with a strong aggression level. While the Replicators replicate through metallic means, the Asurans are able to replicate through organic means. This allowed them to evolve rapidly into humanoids. The Atlantis Expedition speculates that this is the ultimate origin of the Replicators (305 - Progeny).

Nerus
- Myth ~ ANCIENT GREEK ~ Possibly named for Nereus, a Titan and the oldest son of Gaia (Earth) and Pontus (Sea). With Doris (a Sea-Goddess), he fathered the Nereids (fifty sea-nymphs). He is the God of the Mediterranean Sea, who had the power to tell the future but was often reluctant to do so. He also had the ability to shape-shift, and was known for his honesty and virtue. He is described as a gentle, old, and wise man. He is physically depicted as wearing a chiton, carrying a wooden staff with a curled fish tail instead of legs. He mainly lived in the Aegean Sea.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Nerus is a minor Goa’uld who used to serve Baal and now follows the Ori. He claims to have invented the Holographic Projector, as well as many other Goa'uld technologies. He also says that he was the one responsible for the simultaneous dialing of all the Stargates in the Milky Way (in the destruction of the Replicators). He is also known for his greed, gluttony, and many appetites. After SG-1 defeats the Ori, he defiantly tells Gen. Landry to kill him for his treachery so he can Ascend. Landry declines and tells Nerus that he will be held in the basement of Area 51 (with bad food) until he can think up defense against the Ori (906 -- Beachhead). He tells Landry that Baal trying to establish a new empire by stealing Stargates. Nerus is released (with some cupcakes and a hidden tracking device). The SGC also plants viruses (to disable the shields) in his technological devices. Baal is not pleased that his ship is infected, and kills Nerus with a staff weapon (916 -- Off the Grid).

Netu
- Myth ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ According to Budge, Netu is "...a river of boiling water, or liquid fire, in the [D]uat." References of this can be found in: An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary by Sir E.A. Wallis Budge (vol.1; p 400) and The Egyptian Heaven and Hell edited and translated by Budge. The latter book is a translation of the Book of Am-Tuat, and references to Netu can be found in section five of the translation. The term "Netu" may have also been derived from two additional Egyptian hieroglyphic phrases. The first (which I found in the book, Illustrated Hieroglyphics Handbook by Ruth Schumann-Antelme) is Nenyoo (spelled "nnyw" in hieroglyphs) translates to "inert people; the deceased." The second phrase is Neter-khertet, which translates to "divine subterranean place."
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Netu is the moon of Sokar’s home world, Delmak. The main mode of travel between these two is the Ring Transporters. Sokar uses this "hellish moon" as a prison. While on Netu, SG-1, Martouf, and Jacob are subjected to a hallucinogenic drug called the "Blood of Sokar" and the Goa’uld Memory Device by Apophis (who was also a prisoner of Netu), who uses their "trippin’" experiences to try to gain access to Earth’s and the Tok-ra’s secrets. A Tok-ra device causes Netu to explode (312/313 – Jolinar’s Memories/The Devil You Know).

Neutronium
- Science Fiction ~ PHYSICS ~ Whether or not Neutronium is a real thing is a highly debated topic. The physics of the interior of the core of a neutron star is not well understood. The term "Neutronium" is used to describe the extremely dense mater that makes up the core of a neutron star, which is thought to consist of closely packed neutrons. It is thought to be the densest possible matter outside a black hole. It is not an accepted term in astrophysics, and is probably only used in science fiction. In science fiction, armor, structural material, or similar things are made from it, despite the therotically extreme instability of neutronium under normal pressures (It is probably thought to be unstable since neutrons are unstable outside the nucleus and decay in about 15 minutes). Neutronium is mentioned in at least four Star Trek episodes: TOS: "The Doomsday Machine," STV: "Think Tank," and TNG episodes "Evolution" and "Relics."
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ The new home world of the Asgard, Orilla, is rich in this mineral. Neutronium is a key element in Asgard technology (801/802 – New Order).

Ninjas!
- History ~ ANCIENT CHINA ~ There are few historical sources on the origin of Ninjas. The stories and traditions were passed orally through the generations. The Ninjas were thought to have originated sometime around the 6th or 7th centuries AD. In 522 AD, a religion known as Nonuse ("the art of stealth") began to be practiced by a group of non-violent priests. These priests worked for the ruling classes as "mystics" who gathered and shared information. Later, around 645 AD, the priests perfected their fighting skills to protect themselves from harassment by the central government. In 794-1192 AD, the Ninja as we know it solidified. As the Ninjas became more popular (or as a result of their popularity), mythic stories of their superhuman abilities and deeds surfaced. They were spies and assassins; trained in disguise, acting, and linguists. There are two styles of Ninjas: Koga (originated in the Shiga Prefecture) and the Iga (originated in the Mie Prefecture). There was also the Kunoichi, who were female ninjas. They were trained similarly to their male counterparts. However, they were usually more effective, in that they could get closer to their targets by posing as geisha entertainers. They also used “flowery combat;” deception, observation, manipulation, disguise, and feminine charm. While the Samurai’s life was bound by Bushido (the warrior’s code of ethics and honor; to "live by the sword, die by the sword"), the Ninja had no code. They did whatever it took to accomplish their mission. Learn more about the wonderful world of Ninjas: EnterTheNinja.com.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Three remaining Space-Ninja Jaffa are discovered aboard Anubis’ mother ship. These ninjas have the ability to go into a deep state of kelno’reem (Jaffa meditation), which slows their heart rate to one or two beats per minute (below the sensors’ ability to detect life signs). The Ninja Jaffa kill one of the red-shirt techies brought along to help restart the ship and generally run amok, making the mission difficult for SG-1 (603 – Descent).

| Nirty
- Myth ~ ANCIENT INDIA ~ Nirrti "Destruction" The Hindu Goddess of Destruction and Death. She lived in the south (which was the land of the dead). Her husband was Nirrta. Nirriti - The Vedic (also India) Goddess of Evil and Deceit. She is the embodiment of destruction.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ The Goa’uld System Lord responsible for killing all the inhabitants of P8X-987, except one (Cassandra). She, Cronus, and Yu were first encountered by the SGC during treaty proceedings between Earth and the System Lords. She is cunning and deceitful. Nirty attempted to assassinate Cronus during the proceedings and have Teal’c take the blame (303 – Fair Game). It turns out that Nirty had been doing experiments on the inhabitants of Hanka (P8X-987, Cassandra’s planet). She was trying to advance human evolution to create a Hok’tar (Goa’uld from "Hok" meaning "advanced" and "Tar" a slang term for Tau-ri or "human") to be her new host. She poisoned the inhabitants to hide the evidence of her experimentation (506 – Rite of Passage). She is still a renegade (515 – Summit). She has amassed an army. Kytano/Imhotep steals some weapons-grade Naquadah from her Jaffa (518 – The Warrior). Nirty is at it again. The SGC discovered her lab on P3X-367, in which she is using a "DNA re-sequencer" (perhaps the creation of the Ancients) to alter the genetic makeup of the planet’s inhabitants, in her quest to make a viable Hok’tar host. Her test subjects have gained the ability of telepathy and telekinesis. However, the process leaves the subject physically disfigured and their cellular structure becomes unstable; leading to massive breakdown and death (616 – Metamorphosis). It turns out that she manipulated Jonas’ DNA in the episode, Metamorphosis. She gave him the power to see the future (621 – Prophecy).

Nox
- Myth ~ ANCIENT ROME ~ Also called Nyx (by the Ancient Greeks). She is the Goddess of Night and one of the daughters of Chaos. She is the wife of Erebus and mother to Æther (Goddess of Pure Air) and Hemera (Goddess of Day), as well as Moros and Thanatos. She is seen as one of the seven elements. They are: Night (Nox), Fire, Water, Earth, Sky, Sun, and Moon.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ A powerful, non-violent, pixie-like race of aliens. They live on P3C-117. They are also one of the Four Great Races. Antaeus was the leader of the group SG-1 encountered (107 – The Nox). Lya, one of the Nox, was the neutral archon during the Triad for Skaara/Klorel (315 – Pretense).

Nut
- Myth ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ (Pronounced: Noo – it) (Also called Nuit, Nûnt; Translation: "Sky") She is the Goddess of the Sky and the personification of the Celestial Vault. It is said that she swallows Ra each evening and gives birth to him each morning. Some myths say that her voice is the thunder. She is often painted in tombs and sarcophagi. She is portrayed as a dark blue, nude woman covered with yellow, five-pointed stars. She arches over the Earth, and it is said that the tips of her fingers and toes touched the four cardinal directions. She is also sometimes shown as a woman who has a vase of water on her head. She is the sister-wife of Geb (Earth-God) and daughter of Shu (God of Dry Air) and Tefnut (Goddess of Moisture). She is the mother of Osiris, Isis, Seth, Heru-ur, and Nephthys (Desert Goddess). Also sometimes said to be the mother of Hathor by Ra. Her sacred animal was the cow. Her main center of worship was Heliopolis, although she was worshiped throughout Egypt.
- The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Vala says that the Kor Mak bracelets once belonged to the Goa'uld Nut, and that they were ceremonial marriage bracelets. However, Teal’c relates that the bracelets were owned by Cronus to stop prisoners from escaping his Jaffa soldiers. If the two wearing the bracelets become separated more than 100 feet for more than 30 minutes, they both died (901-903 – Avalon, Origin).
